Tutors and mentors who join Lurni early (until 31/12/2025) enjoy 2 months with no commission. This is our way of thanking you for building the community with us from the very beginning.
After the free period, the platform commission per lesson or mentorship session is 20%.
Once you have given 300 hours of lessons or sessions on Lurni, your commission is reduced to 15%.
For those who remain active for 5+ years (with at least an average of 10 hours/week), the commission is reduced further to 10%.
Why Commission Matters
To fund marketing campaigns and promotions that help you reach more students and mentees and expand your audience.
To cover the costs of secure payment services. Payment providers charge a small percentage per transaction, and Lurni covers this from the platform commission so you receive full protection against unpaid lessons while learners benefit from safe transactions.
To support and continuously build new functionality on the platform, creating a strong and reliable workspace for you.
To provide students and mentees with integrated tools such as lesson summaries, homework manager, flashcards, and progress tracking, helping them learn effectively with you.
2. Freedom to Set Up Your Terms
No mandatory trial lessons or sessions. Your time and expertise are valuable and deserve fair pay.
Trial lessons or first sessions can be offered at your discretion and changed anytime.
We recommend (but do not require) offering a 15-minute free consultation to discuss goals and expectations.
You can adjust your hourly rate for new and existing students or mentees at any time.
Some learners may prefer one-time help (exams, job interviews, career advice). We don’t push learners into long-term packages.
We encourage you to set rates above $10/hour, respecting your qualifications and expertise.
You can set multiple session durations (30/45/50/60/90/120 minutes) with corresponding rates.
You can offer lesson or mentorship packages (e.g., 5x1h sessions at a discounted rate).
3. Support, Protection & Recognition
Each month you receive a certificate via email with details on your position, subject or mentorship area, and hours completed (both per category and total). A QR code option will allow viewing reviews on the platform.
We will never restrict or delete your profile without a valid reason and notification.
Restrictions can only happen after a detailed investigation with strong evidence. You will always be involved in this process.
Offensive behaviour from learners is not tolerated. You can report incidents, temporarily disable calendar availability for specific learners without affecting your rating/profile, and Lurni will handle communication.
A professional community is available where you can vote for specific courses and resources you’d like Lurni to provide.
Loyalty program: Active contributors (at least 520 lessons or sessions per year = averaging 10 per week) receive annual bonuses and certificates. Higher bonuses are awarded for long-term commitment at 5 and 10 years.
We provide tools and guidance to help you create your teaching or mentorship content and materials on Lurni.
4. Teaching & Mentorship Process
Respect learners, demonstrate best practices, and act as role models in your subject or field.
Rude, offensive, or discriminatory behaviour is strictly prohibited. Always maintain a professional and inclusive environment.
Build a strong reputation together: be well-prepared, punctual, and considerate of learner needs and goals.
Ensure sessions are engaging and structured. Provide clear explanations, practical examples, and encourage participation.
Give constructive feedback that motivates and guides learners in their journey.
Respect learner privacy and confidentiality. Do not share personal information or session content outside of the platform.
Be flexible and adaptive in your approach, considering different learning styles and levels of ability.
Use the tools provided by Lurni (homework manager, lesson summaries, flashcards, etc.) to enhance the experience and maintain consistency.
5. Platform Rules
All lessons and mentorship sessions must take place on the Lurni platform. This ensures protection against no-shows, maintains safety for both learners and mentors/tutors, and supports a consistent experience. Off-platform work is not permitted.
If off-platform work is discovered, you will be notified and the profile will be permanently removed. Re-creation of an account, even with a new email address, will not be allowed.
Tracking algorithms help us detect unusual activity, such as attempts to move learners off the platform. Any investigation will always involve your participation to ensure fairness.
Keeping work on Lurni ensures that learners have access to all integrated tools — homework manager, lesson summaries, progress tracking, and secure payments — which creates a smooth and reliable journey.
Our secure payment system protects you from unpaid sessions and provides a safe environment for learners. Work outside the platform cannot be covered by our protection.
By working within Lurni, you contribute to a trusted and professional community. This helps us grow together, attract more learners, and build long-term success for everyone.
6. Copyright & Use of Lurni Brand
Content created on Lurni (lesson materials, summaries, flashcards, and other resources) is protected by copyright. You are welcome to share your own content externally, but reposting or distributing Lurni-created content requires proper reference to Lurni.
The Lurni name, logo, and brand identity may not be used without prior written permission. This protects the platform’s reputation and ensures consistent professional presentation.
Lurni is a registered trademark. Any unauthorized use of our brand, content, or materials may result in account restrictions or legal action.
We encourage you to proudly mention that you teach or mentor on Lurni in your professional profiles, CVs, or portfolios. Please make sure any reference is accurate and respectful to the platform.
7. Security
Lurni applies monitoring and safety measures to prevent restricted or harmful content, ensuring respectful and professional communication at all times.
We are committed to protecting both learners and tutors/mentors by maintaining a secure and trusted environment.
All payments are processed through secure providers, protecting you from missed payments and learners from fraud.
Personal information is handled in line with data protection laws (GDPR and other applicable regulations). We do not share private data without consent.
In case of technical or safety concerns, our support team is available to investigate and assist promptly.
